What is Backflow Testing?
Backflow testing is the process of connecting a test gauge to a backflow assembly and ensuring that it is functioning properly.
What Does a Backflow Assembly Do?
Keeps the water that does into a system like; irrigation, fire suppression, or boiler systems (to name a few) and ensuring that the water that goes into the system, can never come back into the public water supply
Why is Backflow Testing Required?
Backflow testing has been mandated by the Washington Department of Health, WAC 246-290-490. The purpose is to purpose is to protect public health and prevent contamination of the public water system due to backflow from private water systems. The responsibility has been passed down to each water districts and it is up to the individual water district implement their own program.
What if I Don't Get My Backflow Tested?
The consistences are up to the individual water district. Typically the water district starts with letters informing you of the requirement to have your backflow assembly tested. After that, some districts will assess fines and some will shut your water off completely.
